Description
The development of the mining activity requires engineers trained to face a world of changes, characterized by an increasingly complex mineralogy, a decrease in ore grades and more intensive environmental regulations. Therefore, our career – part of the Metallurgical Engineering Department – has a solid foundation in Basic Sciences and Engineering, which allows our graduates to face technological changes and incorporate future knowledge. In addition, we consider a specialization in extractive metallurgy and an adequate training in the economic and human resources field.
Graduate profile
Engineering at University of Concepción have an ability to: identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science and mathematics; apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental and economic factors; communicate effectively with a range of audiences; recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental and societal contexts; function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives; develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions; acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies, and manage human, material, and financial resources.
Career opportunities
It is mainly found in metallic and non-metallic mining in the country, both in productive companies as well as in those of technologies and services. Its role is associated to the process field in the different stages of extractive metallurgy, as well as to the field of administration and management. An interesting work niche is that of research and technological development, mainly associated with universities and research centers.
